Today the weather was against us and i had a few errands to do. One of those was to stop by Hobby Lobby and see what leather they had, I needed a new hood for the weekend. they had some 4-5oz tan leather. They had an 8x11 piece for $7.99 it was a little on the thick side but will do for now. The result is the following
It's basically an Anglo Indian but with a feather plume twist. Need to work on my piping a little but it is a good fit and will work until she has another pissy fit and destroys it. I finally worked out how braces work. I quite pleased as this is only the 4th hood i have ever made.
Tomorrow we are off out hunting, so i just fed her 40 grams of squirrel.

not too bad at all for a 4th hood. But....You dont have the braces right yet. Hopefully she wont eat this one :)
so how do you do the braces, my sponsor cant make hoods and i haven found out a pictorial way of seeing how its done
Definitely hard to describe. But once you know how it is not hard. There is a good diagram in the falconry equipment making book by Kinney and Hodge I think. It has an orange color and is inexpensive.
the brace goes down through middle slit, up through inside slit (the one closer to the beak hole) Then thru the brace and back down through the middle slit and back up through the outside slit (the one near the opening. Do that do both sides. then to close the end of the slit goes over and in the first slit on the other side, thru the brace and back up through the middle slit so the end to close the hood ends up on the inside (closer to the hood) than the knotted part of the brace. you do the same thing to the other side but have to go thru the other brace at some point in between the opening. I'm sure this doesnt help but I tried. good luck.
Thanks, think we got it !
