Well its been i while since i last posted, to be honest we ended up having a really crap year. We got 24lbs of honey of 8 hives and then lost all but 1 of those hives, right now we will probably loose the remaining hive because of the below freezeing temperatures and 2 inches of snow.
Just before the bad weather i placed a pollen patter and placed a top hive feeder on full of sugar water so who knows maybe they will survive.
Not sure where to go with this right now or what to change n order to get a successful year. I was placed with the queens i received it made a big difference to the hives i had that had gone hot so will probably do that again.
Anyway spring is coming and who knows what may happen or become of it

Aw Steve, What a bummer! I'm sorry. Our two hives had to be put together for the winter... here in MA we have about 3 ft of snow on the ground and our hive was covered the other day... resulting in the deaths of many bees trying to get back in... :( Fingers crossed for a good srping and lots of honey... hoping the same for you!
That is too bad. Like Emily, I too am in MA and have the same 3" of snow. I got only about 32 lbs of honey last year - it was a bad year for everyone.
I know I have 2 dead-outs so far (out of 5 hives). I think 2 are going strong. Time will tell.
I am hoping that with the past 2 years being really crappy for honey, this year will succeed!
What are your plans for next year - gonna start things up again, or take a break?
Thanks guys,
I'll keep going but i got to find out why i loose so many. Im thinking of modifying my Bee Vac and im also thinking about making some solar powered venterlated Hive Tops. Not sure about getting any packages but certainly will do the bee removal.
